Tahanea

We have been sitting in a great little Atol for the last few days. Every day has started around 8:00 for either a snorkel or scuba dive. The water is warm and clear, with tons of small reef fish, many larger fish, black and white tip sharks and giant Manata Rays. We are anchored in about 40 feet of water, and we can see the anchor (sadly wrapped next to some coral heads) from the bow, and can see many of these creatures from the boat. Although the wind is low right now, less than 10 kts on average, we are anchored in water with aa azure mirror like finish much of the time. Living on the boat, you would think yourself at a dock it is so peaceful. We also had a nice bonfire on the sandless coral beach with most of the cruisers that were anchored near by. It was amazing, there were literally thousands of hermit and coconut crabs on the beach and they attacked anything resembling food with vigor! When we get some internet to upload photos, I have a great shot of them being introduced to thai peanut sauce, which they really seemed to like.

Sadly, cute Lauren has had one of her inflammation headaches for the last few days, and while she is back to almost normal again, she hasn’t been able to enjoy it to the fullest. Depending on the weather, we are either going to head to Fakarava for a few days and some more diving, or head directly to Tahiti from here…
